After the success of the first five, in which Karura and Moonriver were among the winners, five more auctions are scheduled for September
Kusama announced yesterday that the next series of five Parachain auctions will take place in September.
As a “Canarian network” for Polkadot, Kusama inherits the blockchain architecture from Polkadot, which consists of various blockchains, so-called “parachains”, which can each have their own native tokens and economies and run parallel to the central relay chain.
After the introduction of the Parachain Statemine for the common good, the first five Parachain auctions took place in Kusama in June and July.
The first winner was the decentralized financial center (DeFi) Karura, followed by the smart contract platform Moonriver, the multi-chain decentralized application layer (dApp) Shiden, the data protection infrastructure Khala and the multichain middleware platform Bifrost.
The slot winners are already using the upgrade options that Substrate offers, with the Parachains also working on cross-chain collaborations.
The six parachains now running on Kusama have been monitored for stability and performance. Parity Technologies’ core development team responsible for Polkadot and Kusama observed occasional temporary deadlocks in the block closure phase, even though finality, as well as block production and permits, were generally stable.
Since the problem will not be exacerbated by additional parachains, Parity recommends holding the next series of parachain auctions in September. The sixth Parachain auction is scheduled to begin on September 1st at 12:00 PM GMT, with the winner being selected on September 8th. The seventh auction starts an hour later, the remaining auctions take place at weekly intervals.
The auctions are valid for a rental period, with each participant bidding the amount of KSM that he would like to block for the duration of the rental agreement. Projects can finance their own offers or crowdfunding from their communities.
Kusama provides a testing ground for Polkadot’s technology, and once the Kusama parachains are running smoothly and all audits have been carried out, the parachain functionality will also be activated on Polkadot.
A date has not yet been set for the Polkadot Parachain Auctions, but following the success of Kusama, they may be announced in the next few weeks.
